Hot on the heels of Maricopa County being named No. 1 for economic growth nationwide, the state's development prospects have received another boost from the Standard & Poor's Global Ratings agency.
Late last week, S&P revised its outlook on Arizona's overall credit to positive from stable and affirmed its 'AA' issuer credit rating for the state, while also affirming its 'AA-' long-term rating on Arizona's general fund appropriation-secured certificates of participation, or COPs. The report noted that Arizona's surge in economic growth over the past two years was a key factor in the upgrade.

An East Valley startup is launching what it describes as the “largest commercial metal 3D printer in the world," targeting customers in the aerospace, naval and defense industries.
Rather than a typical laser used in metal 3D printing, the Halo system developed by Mesa-based Rosotics uses an electromagnetic process the company has developed over years of research and development.
The Halo system consists of three induction-based print heads referred to as "Mjolnir," which are capable of fusing material at a high feed rate. Halo is designed to be a "net shape printer," meaning it incorporates shaping and forming of metal into the overall printing process, eliminating the need for post-processing, according to Christian LaRosa, the company's founder.

Phoenix-based nonprofit Kitchen on the Street is launching a food waste management pilot program with Alberta, Canada-based Knead Technologies to help Phoenix's Office of Environmental Programs reduce food waste in the Valley.
The pilot project, announced July 22, will involve collecting surplus food and compostable waste from local farms, grocery stores, restaurants, and cafes. Kitchen on the Street will leverage Knead Technologies’ logistics software and the city’s circular system to give back the excess foods to those in need in Arizona.
After food is collected from areas around Phoenix, food will be reallocated through a network of volunteer delivery drivers. Food waste is directed to compost partners and redistributed with the goal of closing the loop on waste.
